The 4th edition of Tallinn Photomonth contemporary art biennial will take place in September and October 2017. Although started in 2011 by a group of artists working primarily with photography and video, the biennial has never been a narrowly media-based event, rather it looks more broadly at developments in art and society in a world mediated by cameras, screens and images.
The main exhibition, curated by Anthea Buys, will be held at Tallinn Art Hall from 1 September to 8 October 2017. The reasoning for the elements of this exhibition of photographic and other images being brought together is buried in a fictional story of fixation, speculation, and obsessive looking. Anthea Buys (born in Johannesburg, South Africa) is a curator and writer based in Bergen, Norway, where she works as Director of Hordaland Kunstsenter / Hordaland Art Centre.
The festival’s Professional Week will take place 26 September – 1 October 2017, including several exhibitions, events, screenings, an educational programme and the country’s first and only contemporary art fair The Photographic Art Fair.
The directors of Tallinn Photomonth ’17 are Kadri Laas and Laura Toots. Tallinn Photomonth festival is organised by the Estonian Union of Photography Artists and Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center.
